Psychotherapy Services with Sheldon

Smiling young man with glasses and beard in front of a white door.

book a call with Sheldon today

My name is Sheldon, and I am a psychotherapist who utilizes a pragmatic and structured approach to help clients tackle various concerns such as trauma, addiction, grief, and high-stress life transitions. With an educational background in Psychology and Life Sciences focused on Neurosciences, I view therapy through both a scientific and human-centered lens, aiding clients in understanding the connection between their thought patterns, emotions, and behavior. By incorporating insights from the neuroscience of mental health, I am able to customize therapy according to each individual’s needs, acknowledging how stress, trauma, and behavioral patterns can affect the brain and overall well-being.

My practice heavily employs Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), along with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Therapy (ST), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). I place a strong emphasis on mindfulness and trauma-informed care that utilizes mindfulness techniques.

I primarily work with adolescents and adults seeking practical, methodical, and adaptable strategies to manage emotional distress. This includes navigating challenges related to identity, trauma, addiction, grief and loss, anxiety, depression and mood disorders, burnout, life transitions, breaking unhealthy patterns, or regaining stability after a crisis.

My academic and professional experience within hospital systems enables me to swiftly assess immediate short-term concerns while guiding clients toward profound long-term healing. Therapy sessions with me are goal-oriented yet adaptable; some clients may require structured interventions, while others thrive in more reflective, insight-driven conversations. Each session is tailored to the individual, ensuring a balance between developing coping skills, exploring personal meaning, and fostering resilience.

I firmly believe that healing encompasses not only processing the past but also creating actionable change in the present. It is a journey of self-awareness, action, and growth, and I strive to establish a space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. Whether you’re seeking clarity, coping strategies, or a deeper understanding of yourself, I provide an environment where you can progress with confidence and purpose.

If you are ready to take the next step, I’m here to support you in moving forward with clarity and confidence. I’m Negar Dean, an MACP (Masters in Counselling Psychology) Practicum Student Therapist. Having walked the path of healing myself, I recognize the profound impact that mental health can have on one’s life. My personal journey has instilled in me the importance of compassion, resilience, and the transformative power of therapy—lessons that now inform my therapeutic approach.

Coming from a multi-ethnic background, I deeply value working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and I am particularly passionate about supporting immigrants, vulnerable populations, and marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals. My practice is grounded in respect for each person’s unique cultural, spiritual, and personal identity, and I strive to create an environment where clients feel seen, heard, and understood.

I work with individuals of all ages, couples, and families, offering support for a wide range of challenges including grief and loss, alongside specialized training in addressing addictions and substance abuse, as well as anxiety, depression, and mood disorders.

I understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I customize high-quality sessions specifically for each client based on their unique personality and needs, utilizing an integrative approach that draws from various methods and therapeutic modalities including Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), The Gottman Method, and Bowen’s Family Systems Theory.

Above all, my goal is to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you can freely explore your thoughts and emotions, whether you're dealing with personal struggles, relationship challenges, or life transitions. Together, we’ll examine how your past experiences shape your present, harness your innate resilience, and build a pathway toward the life and relationships you desire.
