I’m Zakir, the no-nonsense therapist who believes in cutting through the noise and getting straight to the heart of what matters. Therapy is about progress, not just talk, so if we’re not a good fit after our first session, I’ll refer you to someone who may be better suited to help you.
I grew up in a blue-collar family where hard work wasn’t just encouraged—it was a way of life. My father worked two jobs to keep food on the table, and his dedication taught me the value of resilience and grit. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I trained as a machinist and metal fabricator, spending countless hours welding and forming metal. I also owned and ran my own metal fabrication business for years. That hands-on experience instilled in me the importance of precision, persistence, and the satisfaction of seeing something transform through effort—skills I now bring into my therapy practice.
As a South Asian born and raised in Canada, I’ve faced my own challenges, including racism and systemic barriers. I understand the real-world struggles that many of us face, and I’m here to help you work through yours.
I am also a parent to teenage children, which means I am fluent in both eye rolls and "being an opp." My experience with generational differences shapes how I connect with clients of all ages and backgrounds, helping me offer relevant and personalized support.
My philosophy in life and therapy is rooted in finding meaning and strength through our struggles, a process known as post-traumatic growth. I believe that even our toughest experiences can serve as stepping stones to resilience and transformation.
When it comes to therapy, I am focused on finding solutions that work for you. My approach combines solution-focused strategies with EMDR, a trauma-informed modality, which makes me well-equipped to help you navigate and heal from complex trauma. Life presents obstacles, but with the right tools and mindset, there’s always a way forward.
Let me be clear: My approach may not resonate with everyone. If you’re looking for a therapist who leans heavily on abstract theories or idealized perspectives, my style might not be the best fit. I focus on practical, results-oriented conversations that are grounded in real-world application and tailored to help you achieve meaningful progress.
I adhere to traditional values but also respect diversity in all its forms. My strong spiritual foundation adds depth to my work, offering a balanced and practical perspective to help you create meaningful, lasting change.
